JOHN BOYD DUNLOP
John Boyd Dunlop was born in 1840 in Ayrshire, Scotland, and trained as a veterinary surgeon coming to Belfast in 1867. In 1888 his 10 year old son Johnnie complained to him about the bumpy rides he had to endure on his solid-tyred tricycle due to the cobblestones and rough roads of the time. Dunlop invented a pneumatic tyr that immedietly won races in all of the major cycle races in the British Isles and was to revolutionise road transport.
